How old does a student have to be to go on the bus for road games?

            A: 6th - 8th grade

How old does a student have to be to attend home games without a parent or guardian?

            A: 4th grade or higher (Students 3rd grade or lower must be with a parent or guardian at all times)

Does my child need a note to go home with his/her parents after a game?

            A: No note is required to take your own child, but you must notify the coach and sign out your child.

Does my child need a note to go home with another parent?

            A: Yes, the note must be signed by the child's parent or legal guardian.

How long does my child have to be at school in order to participate if he/she is under the weather?

A:  A student must be in attendance the second half of the school day starting at 12:25.  The only exception is an important appointment (doctor) or occasion (funeral).  A doctor's note or other proof may be required.

How long does a student have to sit out after an (F) on a grade check?

A: One week (Each student must also show improvement with his/her grade to 

play again.  The teacher will determine if the student’s performance or grade has improved.)

Are there any athletic punishments for a conduct detention with extracurricular activities?

A: Any conduct detention can result in a week suspension if the coach, teacher, athletic director or another administrator decides it is warranted.  Two conduct detentions in a school year results in a one week suspension. Three is a school can warrant dismissal from the team.

Are there any athletic punishments associated with an assignment detention(s)?

            A: No

Does my child need a physical in order to participate in extracurricular practices or games?

            A: Yes

Can my child participate on out of school teams while on a school team?

            A: Yes, but the team coach or the athletic director must approve out of school activities.
                Aviston youth league activities such as football and soccer are approved if coordinated well with school activities.

Are there any costs involved in extracurricular activities?

A: It depends on the sport.  Baseball, for example, requires students to purchase a hat and socks which need to be individually purchased.  Track also requires the purchase of a uniform that each player gets to keep.  Currently there are no team fees required to play.

Does Aviston Elementary have tryouts/cuts?

         A: Unfortunately the growth of Aviston has made cuts necessary.  We try to avoid cutting whenever possible.  Our students have numerous extra-curricular opportunities with the additional sports and activities added since our growth in enrollment.  We hope each kid gets to enjoy one or more of those offered.
