I hope your children are enjoying the beginning of the school year.  This is a picture of a past student  in front of the word wall he made at home.  What a great idea!!!

Each day we practice our spelling and word wall words in many ways.  Have your child demonstrate these for you.  So far we have done:

I hear and I forget.  I see and I remember.  I do and I understand. ~ Chinese Proverb

  Accelerated Reading

(** To find out if your home library books are AR books you can visit www.renlearn.com.  Just type in the title under the order quizzes section.)

Accelerated Reading: This is a new activity for the first grade. We take books home to read or have someone read to us. Then we take tests on the books using the computer. This helps build comprehension skills. Points are earned by answering the questions correctly. Students can earn many prizes during the year.  A list of tests taken and points earned by each student will be sent home each quarter with the report card.  Congratulations to all the first graders for working so hard on their reading.

****Wednesday is library day***

The homework on Wednesday is usually to read an AR book.  Remind your child to sign up to take a test after reading the book with you at least twice.
