Penguins are unique, flightless birds who "fly" through the water. They have successfully adapted to different environments, some very extreme. There are 17 species of penguins and they are only found in the Southern hemisphere. Penguins can live in habitats that range from tropical to arctic. The Emperor is featured in the film, "March of the Penguins" and is the largest penguin at 4 ft. high. The smallest penguin is the Little Blue Penguin at only 16 inches high. All penguins eat fish, squid, and/or krill. Among their main predators are Leopard Seals and Orcas (killer whales). If you would like to see videos and visit sites to learn more about these special flightless birds just click below.

Our Earth is NOT a quiet place! We read about volcanoes and earthquakes in third grade. Did you know that the ground you stand on is called the Earth's crust? Did you know that the crust is divided into huge pieces called plates that slide around on top of melted rock called magma? If a crack, called a fault, opens up between two plates, a volcano can form. If the huge plates move too fast along these fault lines, we may have earthquakes!
Are you curious about our Earth and how exciting it can be? If the answer is, "YES!" then check out the 2 slide shows below. Just scroll down and you may also visit some cool sites to learn even more!
